Masahiro Tanaka (152km/h): Game #14

by on Jun.27, 2007 @ 3:03 am, under NPB

Another solid start for the youngster.

A bit of a shaky outing for Ma-kun (his nickname), this time against the Yomiuri Giants. In 7 innings he gave up 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits (2 homers) and 3 walks while striking out 7. He faced 29 batters and threw a total of 111 pitches.

Considering the Giants are pacing both leagues in runs (344), homeruns (94) and batting average (.283), I'd say he did a pretty decent job.

For those interested: overall, the Marines (PL) are second in runs (316) and batting average (.271), while the Lions (PL) are second in homeruns (67). Within the CL, the Dragons have the second most runs (296) and homeruns (65) with the Swallows in second for batting average (.265). Keep in mind that pitchers hit in the CL.

So that's win number 5 for Ma-kun and strikeout number 88 in 85.1 innings.

I should also probably note that he 152km/h (94.4mph) on the radar gun during the 6th inning of the game, a new personal best.

The Golden Eagles have been a good surprise this year. I don’t think they’ve ever been as high in the standings as they are now.

They have been quite good this year. And attendance figures have also been fairly high, although some of that can be attributed to young players like Tanaka.

As it stands right now, the Golden Eagles are 31-36-2. Seems they are improving with every season.
