Yu Darvish: Game #15

by on Jul.07, 2007 @ 5:12 pm, under NPB

Darvish was utterly dominant in his start last night against the Lotte Marines. He gave up a single on a grounder through the right side on an 0-1 pitch in the top of the second. With Benny at the plate, he throws a wild pick-off to first and the runner advances to second. And as if things couldn't get any worse, with the count 1-2, Darvish accidentally plunks Benny on the left hand.

Rocky beginning? Most definitely. But instead of self-destructing, Yu got the next batter to ground into a 3-6-3 double-play and go the final out on a grounder to first. From there on, he didn't allow a single runner to get on base.

The last 21 outs consisted of 9 strikeouts (4 caught looking), 8 ground ball outs, and 4 fly ball outs.

Final line score:
9 IP, 28 BF, 109 P, 1 H, 10 K, 1 HBP

On the season:
2.18 ERA (3rd in PL)
127 K (leads both leagues)
9 CG (leads both leagues)
123.2 IP (leads both leagues)

Looks like the Fighters won again to extend the lead a little bit over the Marines. And on a side note, Japan won the collegiate series for the first time ever here in the States.

TV ratings for baseball games have been on the decline over the last few years. I think attendance figures are still decent, but nowhere as strong as they once were. They are trying a number of things to try and get more fans into the seats, but I’m really not sure how much those efforts are paying off.
