Masahiro Tanaka: Game #19

by on Aug.06, 2007 @ 1:23 am, under NPB

I really need to get on the ball with these game updates. Oh well, better late than never...

Masahiro Tanaka started his 19th game of the season against the Softbank Hawks. Things were a bit shaky for Tanaka right from the start. He retired the first two batters he faced on a strikeout and ground out, but then gave up single and a homerun, allowing 2 runs to score in the first. He kept the Hawks off the board in the second and may have also kept them scoreless in the third, had it not been for a throwing error by third baseman Kusano Daisuke. The fourth inning wasn't much better for Tanaka as he gave up another 2-run homer to the Hawks. But he bared down after that and threw two scoreless innings.

In the mean time, his team mates put up a fight, scoring fours runs in the bottom of the fourth (5 consecutive hits: a double then 4 singles) and three runs in the bottom of the fifth (run-scoring double, 2-run homerun).

Final score, Eagles topple the Hawks, 7-5.
