Masahiro Tanaka: Game #24

by on Sep.07, 2007 @ 10:00 am, under NPB

Tanaka didn't have much of anything on the mound for his 24th start of the year. After retiring the first batter on grounder to second, he surrendered up a 2-run homer to Hitoshi Tamura (11). The second inning wasn't much better. Facing the second batter after retiring the first on a grounder to second, Tanaka surrendered his second homerun of the game, this time to Nobuhiro Matsuda (5). He retired the next two on strikeouts to end the inning.

The next 4 innings leading up to the 7th were a little rocky, but Tanaka managed to keep the Hawks at bay. But things quickly fell apart in the 7th. He struck out Hidenori Tanoue to start the inning, but then gave up a walk, a single to center, and allowed a runner to score on a strikeout wild pitch that also permitted the batter to get to first. He was removed from the game after that, but the two runners he left on base were allowed to score by his replacement and suddenly the game was tied at 6. The Hawks would score 2 more runs before the end of the inning, enough to take the victory away from the Eagles.

Final score: Hawks 8 - Rakuten 6
