The Nippon Ham Fighters clinched their second straight division title last night with their 9-1 victory over the Chiba Lotte Marines. Of somewhat importance is that this comes after Hillman made an announcement that he will not be returning next season as manager of the Fighters, citing personal reasons as his cause (the announcement was actually made on the 9th of September 8th). Some in the media weren't quite sure how the Fighters would react to this announcement, but it seems the club is playing just as hard to deliver another trophy to Hillman before he leaves. What's more, the Fighters are doing this after losing both Michihiro Ogasawara (.313 / 32 HR / 100 RBI in 2k6) and Tsuyoshi Shinjo (.258 / 16 HR / 62 RBI in 2k6). But Hichori has done a nice job, more or less taking over Shinjo's place on the team (.299 / 90 RS / 31 SB), as has Atsunori Inaba (.335 / 17 HR / 87 RBI).
The last time a team won back-to-back division titles was in 1999 and 2000 by the Daiei Hawks (now the Softbank Hawks).
