I wanted to post this up before I hit the sack last night but somehow forgot. In any case, Koji Uehara has announced that he intends to become a free agent after this season and would like to try his shot at the majors next season. He told reporters that going to the majors isn't really a dream, but rather a goal.
After spending most of his time at the team's closer last season (4-3, 32 S, 1.74 ERA), Uehara is back in the rotation for the Giants this season. So far on the season, he is 0-1 in one start (CG) with a 4.00 ERA. Uehara is currently 33 years old.
I think he could be an interesting option out of the pen where he won't have to worry about throwing 5-7 innings every time out. And he was quite effective as a closer last season, striking out 66 batters in 62.0 innings while only walking 4 (0.82 WHIP).
