The Nippon Ham Fighters started right-handed 19-year-old Indian / Japanese Romash Tasuku Dass against the Seibu Lions earlier today. Many in the media are calling him the next "Darvish." He stands at 191cm (or roughly 6'3") and weighs 78kg (172 pounds). Dass was drafted out of high school in 2006 and didn't see any playing time last year due to injuries.
In his first start of his career, Dass went 5 innings while giving up an unearned run on 4 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. He threw 100 pitches and faced 22 batters.
The Fighters went on to drop the game against the Lions, 3-1. So much for Dass's first start.
