There was another interview on TV last night with Katsuya Nomura (野村克也) and the World Baseball Classic came up again. I missed the first part of the interview, so I don't know what was said beforehand, but he started talking about how Sadaharu Oh (王貞治) said if Nomura would manage at the WBC, he would be right by his side as head coach. After that, the interviewer asked if he would consider managing Team Japan if Oh was head coach. Unlike his last interview where he said he absolutely had no interest, this time around he said he wasn't sure and that he can't reply to hypothetical questions.
So, is a Nomura / Oh combination possible?
It would seem entirely possible, especially if it's something that Oh suggested. The only question is whether or not Oh's health will allow him to head coach.
What would having a combination of Nomura / Oh do for Japan?
Both Nomura and Oh are highly respected in Japan. Ichiro was said to have asked a Japanese reporter back during Spring Training whether or not Oh would be returning as manager. If Oh is head coach, it will be that much easier to round up all the top players, both in the Majors and the NPB.
As for Nomura, Masumi Kuwata (桑田真澄) believes Nomura might be best at managing a short series. In watching Nomura manage over the last 3 years, it would seem that he does have a knack for squeezing a little extra out of his players when needed.
What kind of lineup might we see?
One of the sections I missed apparently had something to do with who Nomura might select for the WBC. The reason why I know that is because later on in the show they presented the lineup Nomura was said to have picked.
Ichiro Suzuki (鈴木一朗) CF
Tadahito Iguchi (井口資仁) 2B

I'm planning on uploading the interview to YouTube again. I'll post up a link when I do.
