Shohei Tateyama recorded his 10th victory of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.99. Norichika Aoki went 2-for-5, with a run scored and a double, to raise his average to .354. Shinya Miyamoto also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Dragons have dropped back into fourth place behind the Hiroshima Carp.

The Yokohama Bay Stars managed to end their game against the Hanshin Tigers in tie.

Seiichi Uchikawa 2-for-5 and drove in the sole run for the Yokohama Bay Stars in the top of the 6th. Takashi Toritani answered with a homerun in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game. The Bay Stars had a number of opportunites to break through, but the Tigers pitching staff managed to stave off each potential rally.

In the top of the seventh, Yuki Yoshimura started the inning with a double and was bunted over to third, but he remained there; Shuichi Murata got a single with one out in the top of the 9th, but the inning ended promptly with a double play; the Bay Stars managed two consecutive singles after a strike out in the top of the 11th, but couldn't move them any further than first and second; and in the top of the 12th, the Bay Stars managed to get two runners on base, but failed to capitalize.

The Yomiuri Giants and Hiromshima Carp ended their game in a 4-4 tie.

The Giants could have won the game had they been able to hold onto a 2-run lead after taking a 4-2 lead in the top of the 8th, but the Carp had other ideas as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game. If that weren't enough for the Giants, they actually had chances to take the lead in the top of the 11th and 12th.

The Giants began the 11th with a single by Takahiro Suzuki. Takuya Kimura then bunted him over to first. Michihiro Ogasawara was given a free pass. After Alex Ramirez flied out, Ryota Wakiya managed a walk to load the bases with 2 outs. Yoshiyuki Kamei then flied out to end the inning.

The top of the 12th began with a ground out to second. Hayato Sakamoto walked and was sacrificed to second. With 2 outs and a runner on second, Suzuki hit a single to left. On the play, Sakamoto tried to score from second and was thrown out at home to end the inning.

Ties by both the Giants and Tigers mean the two teams remained tied at the top.

Pacific League

The Rakuten Eagles beat the Seibu Lions, 10-7.

The Eagles were trailing the Lions by 2 runs going into the top of 9th. After the Lions scored 5 in the bottom of the 8th, it seemed as though they were on their way to another victory. But fate took a bad hop.

The inning started off with single, strike out, and another single. An already shaky inning for Alex Graman quickly got worse on a fielding error by Takeya Nakamura that loaded the bases. Things continued their downhill decline with a bases loaded walk. The final nail came when Jose Fernandez rocked a first-pitch fastball over the center field wall for a Grand Slam. Graman was finally lifted after giving up a single to the next batter, but the damage was already done.

The Lotte Chiba Marines beat the Orix Buffaloes, 6-1.

The Buffaloes couldn't get much going against Shunsuke Watanabe. He scattered 6 hits over 7.2 innings and only allowed 1 run to cross the plate. He held Alex Cabrera and Tuffy Rhodes to a combined 1-for-8 with 2 strikeouts and an RBI (Rhodes).

Daisuke Hayakawa led the offensive charge with a 4-for-4 night (a double, 2 runs scored, and an RBI). Benny Agbayani (2-for-4) provided some pop with a 2-run homer in the 6th and Kei Hosoya drove in two runs with his 2-for-4 performance.

The Ham Fighters beat the Softbank Hawks, 5-2.

The Hawks are currently reeling. After breaking a 5-game losing streak on the 17th with a 4-2 victory against the Orix Buffaloes, they are now once again in a 5-game losing streak. And with the way the Eagles have been playing recently, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to see the two teams swap places in the standings (the Hawks only have 1.5 game lead).
