Central League

The Yakult Swallows blanked the Hiroshima Carp, 8-0.

After losing two straight against the Carp at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium over the weekend, the Swallows played host to the Carp at Jingu Stadium tonight.

Neither team really made much offtensive noise until the Swallows scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the 6th. With two outs, the Swallows collected three consecutive singles, which resulted in a run. An intentional walk followed by a 5-pitch walk resulted in the second run of the inning. An error and a fielder's choice allowed 3 more runs to score, giving the Swallows a 5 run lead in the bottom of the 6th. The Swallows scored a run in the 7th on a sac fly by Kazuki Fukuchi and 2 more runs in the 8th on Hiroyasu Tanaka's 5th home run of the season.

Masanori Ishikawa picked up his 11th of the victory after his lackluster start against the Dragons on the 24th. He retired 13 consecutive batters at one point, completely shutting down the Carp's offense. Ishikawa did allow two consecutive singles in the fourth, but got out of the inning with some defensive help (Kenta Kurihara was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a fly-out to center). Ishikawa's roughest inning when he gave up a lead-off single, got a ground out, and then gave up two more singles to load the bases. But he promptly got Shigenobu Shima to ground into his 4th double play of the season to end the inning and the game.

NOTES: Aoki when 2-for-4 with a 2 runs scored and an HBP, raising his batting average to .353.

The Yomiuri Giants beat the Yokohama Bay Stars, 3-0.

Hisanori Takahashi notced his 8th victory by blanking the Yokohama Bay Stars over his 8 innings of work. Marc Kroon pitched a scoreless 9th for his 38th save of the season and preserved the shut-out for Takahashi. The Bay Stars were limited to 3 hits (all recorded by Tatsuhiki Kinjo) over 9 innings.

The Giants got help from the big guns in the lineup -- Alex Ramirez drilled his 42nd homer of the season in the top of the second and Mihichiro Ogasawara hit his 34th homerun of the season in the top of the 5th. The third run was driven in on a sac fly by Takuya Kimura prior to Ogasawara's homerun.

NOTES: Ramirez and Ogawasara tied the record of homering in the same game by accomplishing the feat for the 16th time this season. The combo that originally set the record back in 1985 was made up of Randy Bass and Masayuki Kakefu for the Tigers. The Giants' record prior to this season was 15, set by the famous O-N Canon (Oh-Nagashima). ... Seiichi Uchikawa was 0-for-3, dropping his batting average to .374.
