Four of My Prized Japanese Baseball Cards

by on Oct.02, 2008 @ 12:22 am, under Other

These four cards probably aren't worth all that much, but they are of players that helped define Japanese baseball in the late-80's and much of the 90's. Or at least, that's how I think of them.

Sorry the quality isn't all that great. I took these with a camera because I was too lazy to dig out the drivers for my scanner. I'll replace these with cleaner images when I get around to it. I also have a few others from the same year (1991) that I think are equally interesting -- I'll post them when I have some more free time.

Ha, I like seeing these a lot, especially the Nomo and Furuta ones. Those Buffalo uniforms were wild. I think I’ve told this story before, but when I first got into Japanese baseball, I sent to all of the clubs asking if they could send me memorabilia back. I was mostly hoping for things like pocket schedules, and quite a few of the clubs were nice enough to do so. But one day when I came home there was a package waiting for me from Kintetsu. They had taken the time to send me a media guide along with some other trinkets. I thought it was a really nice gesture and made me follow them for quite awhile.

Do you still have all those things they sent you?

I’m not sure where I got it, but I actually have an old Buffaloes cap.

Yeah, I still have a lot of them. If I get a chance, I’ll take some of them out of storage and scan them. The media guide they sent me was one of those really nice ones with a lot of pictures. It must have been in 1989 because it was the year that Pat Dodson was with Kintetsu.
