Bobby Valentine to sign extension with Marines?

by on Oct.03, 2008 @ 10:42 am, under NPB

With the season over for the Marines, Bobby Valentine said, "At this point, there's no reason for me not to extend." Ryuzo Setoyama, President of the Marines, said, "An extension is a no brainer."

It is said that Valentine is looking for a contract that will take him past 2010.

The Marines have a handful of players that will become free agents at the end of the season. Valentine has made it his task to try and keep them with the team.

There’s a story out today that Valentine also said that he would take the Mets’ job if it was offered to him. Apparently there is a bit of holdup in the negotiations with Jerry Manuel over a third year in his contract.

It probably won’t matter as I can’t imagine that Manuel will not be the manager next season. I just thought it was a bit interesting that he would have interest in the Mets’ job when he’s so popular in Japan. But I suppose he would always be able to return to Japan once the Mets’ gig was up.

As far as I can tell, he really loves it over here in Japan. And I don’t think the media has picked up on the possible interest the Mets might have in him yet. It would seem they would have, but I guess the Fukudome incident is keeping most of the reporters busy.
