The WBC Organizational Meetings were held on the 15th. During the meeting, managers from all 12 teams were asked to choose 28 players to be named on the WBC roster. The results of the surveys will be released on the 27th and will be used to help the next manager decide on who to ultimately pick for the final WBC rosters.
Commissioner Ryozo Kato presided over the meetings with newly appointed Special Advisor to the Commissioner, Sadaharu Oh, by his side. Kato said that they will be focusing on picking a manager to represent Japan at the WBC before month's end.
Oh continues to put aside all discussions of him managing Team Japan and noted that he had a fairly difficult time preparing for the first WBC because he had to also balance the needs of the Softbank Hawks as well. But again, this meeting wasn't necessarily about picking the next manager, but rather about how the NPB can help support Team Japan at the WBC.
Senichi Hoshino was also present at the meeting and continued to receive some harsh criticism for his failure to bring back a medal from the Beijing Olympics. But it would appear that Hoshino still might be asked to return as manager of Team Japan, that is, assuming active managers won't be considered for the role.
It is quite possible that Hoshino may be re-introduced as manager on the 27th, when the results from the manager surveys are released.
