BREAKING: Tatsunori Hara to lead Japan at the WBC?

by on Oct.27, 2008 @ 5:06 am, under WBC

Today's WBC Organizational Meetings have ended and an announcement was made that Tatsunori Hara will officially be asked to lead Team Japan at the WBC. A few days earlier, managers for the Lions and Dragons said things that indicated they weren't interested in managing at the WBC (Watanabe said he thought someone with more experience should go and Ochiai said Nomura was the man).

If Hara accepts, this will ultimately work in favor of the Yomiuri Group, since they will be sponsoring the first round of games for the Asia bracket at the Tokyo Dome.

When Fuji TV conducted a simple survey amongst people on the street (they were asked to choose from Oh, Nomura, Hoshino, Watanabe, Hara and 1 or 2 others I think), Nomura was still the most favored choice. However, Hara wasn't too far behind.

Hopefully this will settle the situation down, and they can get busy identifying the players they want to use.

That’s certainly my hope, because they really need to start thinking about the rest of the team.
