Pictures of the outside of Jingu Stadium (神宮球場)

I had some time yesterday and went out to take some photos of Jingu Stadium. These are all shots of the stadium from the outside. The banners you see on the front of the stadium are from the various tournaments taking place right now -- the Toho College Fall Tournaments and the upcoming Tokyo Six College Fall Tournaments to name two.

I love seeing shots like these. It gives some context to the available pictures that are almost exclusively from inside the park. Thanks for posting them.

I wanted to take more pictures of the surrounding area, but ran out of time (it’s a fairly large sports complex). There is another baseball stadium right next to it and a rugby stadium and soccer stadium close by, along with a huge Olympic-sized indoor pool, and gymnasium (usually used for volleyball tournaments). There are outdoor mini soccer fields, tennis courts, and baseball fields. Right next to the baseball fields are the batting cages I like going to.
When I have time, I’ll see if I can take pictures of all these various locations.

There are a few shops around the park, but I think they’re only open when there are games going on.
There is a Hanshin Tigers shop a few blocks away from the park that seems to have regular store hours — I think they also carry Yakult merchandise too.

This is a strange stadium. Inside it’s so threadbare; for some reason I thought it was going to feel a lot… grander, given its long history. It needs a serious retrofit to remove some of its sterility.

Part of the problem is that it’s just really old. But I think that’s also part of the charm.
BTW: were you in Tokyo recently?

Yeah, I was down visiting some friends who came over from Australia for their honeymoon. We caught a Baystars/Swallows game.
When are you planning on coming up here again, we should get together for a game!
