Nikkan Sports: Hiromitsu Ochiai has signed a 3-year extension with the Chunichi Dragons. The contract is apparently valued at 1-oku 5,000-man yen plus team performance bonuses. Next season will mark Ochiai's 6th as manager of the Dragons.
Nikkan Sports: The Orix Buffaloes are taking a look at 24-year-old righty Mark Kelly (currently playing in the Shikoku - Kyushi Island League).
Nikkan Sports: Yoshinori Tateyama has signed an extension with the Ham Fighters and will not be exercising his FA option. The value of his contract: 7,500-man yen.
Sports Hochi: 16-year-old high schooler Eri Yoshida has made the final cut and will take part in the Kansai Independent League draft, set to take place later this month (11/16).
Sports Hochi: The Dragons have decided not to re-sign Tyrone Woods to an extension. His age and asking price was just too much for the front office to swallow. The question now remains: does Woods retire or try to find another team?
Sports Hochi: The Swallows will not be offering extensions to Dicky Gonzalez, Sean Douglass, and Wilson Valdez. They have not yet made a decision on Aaron Guiel -- if he can come back healthy next season, it might be worth the risk.
Sports Hochi: Kenta Kurihara is interested in playing for Japan at the WBC. But before he can even consider playing, he needs to first rehab his right elbow and get back into playing shape. Kurihara was in Los Angeles since last month for his surgery and recently returned to Japan.
Sports Hochi: Tatsuhiko Kinjo has decided to forgo FA and will re-sign a one year deal with the Yokohama Bay Stars. No word on the value.
Daily Sports: Bobby Valentine is refusing to comment on rumors that he's in discussion with the Seattle Mariners for the manager opening. "I have my job with Lotte. [The Mariners] know that." Valentine is apparently discussing and extension with the Lotte front office.
Sponichi: It appears as though Junichi Tazawa is currently in talks with the Braves and Mariners. Rumors are swirling that the Braves may have offered a major league contract to Tazawa and that the Mariners are preparing to offer him a contract sometime later this month. The Red Sox are still considered the front runners for Tazawa's services.
