Sponichi: Sabura Ohmura appears headed to the Majors. An official announcement could be made as early as the 10th.

Sponichi: Shingo Ono may be leaning towards exercising his FA option. While he does want to stay with the Lotte Marines, he is also interested in finding out what his value is on the open market.

Sponichi: Hisao Heiuchi (LOT) was struck in the head by a line drive while he was playing soft-toss on the field. According to team officials, he never lost consciousness and will not require surgery. He will be hospitalized for a week as a precaution. Heiuchi hasn't had much luck this year. He was struck in the head by a broken bat while running the bases during an Orix game on August 12.

Sponichi: The Chiba Lotte Marines will not be re-signing Julio Zuleta to a contract extension. His lack of production, albeit to injury, was cited as a reason.

Sponichi: Ryota Igarashi will most likely be staying with the Yakult Swallows. The original contract the Swallows offered was for 3-oku yen over 3 years. While specifics for the final contract are not yet known, it is believed that it will include a clause that will allow Igarashi to test the FA waters in the Majors.

Sponichi: The Hanshin Tigers may be parting ways with Ryan Vogelsong. The new manager of the Tigers, Akinobu Mayumi, doesn't feel that Vogelsong has what it takes to be a starter. While he could be used in relief, that would mean the Tigers would have 4 foreigners taking up spots as relievers (Jeff Williams, Scott Atchison, and Chris Resop).

Sponichi: Team interested in Junichi Tazawa: Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies.

Daily Sports: The Softbank Hawks are celebrating their 70th Anniversary with a commiserative publication called "Hawks the 70th."

Sports Hochi: Yu Darvish will continue to wear the number 11. It was planned for him to switch his number to 18 during last season's contract negotiations, but Darvish declined. He has something of an attachment to the number 11: he was married to his wife on November 11th.

Sports Hochi: The Tigers appear to have narrowed down their next foreigner candidate to Jose Bautista (INF, Toronto Blue Jays) and Chris Aguila (OF, NY Mets). An announcement of which player they will pick may come as soon as the 10th.
