by on Nov.19, 2008 @ 8:44 pm, under NPB

The NPB has announced that 7 players have filed for free agency this season. They are: Koji Uehara, Kenshin Kawakami, Daisuke Miura, Toshihiro Noguchi, Norihiro Nakamura, Ken Takahashi, and Ryoji Aikawa. Nikkan Sports reports that 9 players filed for free agency last season. Of the 7 players that filed for free agency, Koji Uehara and Ken Takahashi have their sites set on the Majors; Kenshin Kawakami and Ryoji Aikawa are looking at both the NPB and Majors; and Daisuke Miura (Hanshin), Norihiro Nakamura (Rakuten) and Toshihiro Noguchi (Yokohama) are all considering NPB teams. The Swallows are also taking a look at Ryoji Aikawa.

Sponichi: Michihiro Ogasawara would love to be on the WBC roster. And I, for one, would push heavily to have him on the team. I think he should have been on the Olympics roster as well.

Daily Sports: Brian Sweeney will be returning to the Ham Fighters next season -- he signed a 1-year deal worth 8,000-man yen.

Sports Hochi: It looks like the Rakuten Eagles might be willing to offer the uniform number 3 and 2 year, 4-oku yen contract to Norihiro Nakamura.

Sports Hochi: Kenshin Kawakami may put off deciding what he wants to do until after the new year. It seems Kawakami feels he could get a better feel for the market in the US by taking his time and considering all his options. As MLB scout was also quoted as saying, "[Kawakami] seems to have some great stuff, but I think he's also starting to drop-off."
