NPB News and Notes from 11/26: Yokohama pushing to keep Miura

Sanspo: Ken Takahashi is still waiting on concrete offers. "Right now, I'm waiting for word from my agent. I'd like to make a decision as soon as possible, but it looks like it might take until the beginning of the new year." The Mets, Giants, and Cubs are quoted as teams interested in the 39-year-old lefty.

Sponichi: Kazuhiro Wada has told the media that his reason for turning down a spot on the WBC roster has to do with his history of being a slow starter. "I'm a slow starter. I just didn't want to be a reason for holding the team back."

Sponichi: Yoshinobu Takahashi may undergo surgery on his lower back. Takahashi is currently taking things one step at a time, but if surgery is needed, he would seriously consider going down that road even if it means missing the start of the 2009 season.

Sponichi: The Bay Stars are pushing hard to keep Daisuke Miura in Yokohama. "It's still a 50-50 split. I'm now going to sit down and look at my options and hopefully come upon a decision sometime before the end of the month." Miura could announce a decision as soon as the 29th.

Nikkan Sports: Shinnosuke Abe, more than just a captain. The Giants selected Abe to take over duties as Team President, a position that opened up when Tomohiro Nioka was traded away to the Ham Fighters. Abe becomes the 16th Team President for the Giants. (For those wondering, in Japan, captains are responsible for on-the-field leadership while team presidents are responsible for leadership everywhere else.)
