by on Dec.02, 2008 @ 4:27 am, under NPB

Sports Hochi: Weiyin Chen may train with Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang this offseason. According to reports, Chen received a notice from Wang's management team that he will be training in the same place in Taiwan as Chen this off-season.

Sanspo: Eri Yoshida was officially introduced as a member of the newly formed Kobe 9 Cruise at a press conference earlier today. You can see some images from the press event here.

Nikkan Sports: Kevin Mench wants a 1 year deal. The Tigers are currently taking a look at Mench and were surprised to hear that he only wanted a 1-year deal. A Tigers rep involved in the proceedings said, "Most new foreigners usually want multiple years, but with Mench it was different -- he asked us for a 1 year deal. Sounds like he's confident he'll do well next season and therefore doesn't need the security of a multi-year deal."

In many cases, NPB clubs usually avoid signing multi-year deals with foreign players that lack experience playing the in the NPB -- many tend to sign 1 year deals with a club option for a second. In Mench's case, the Tigers were actually prepared to give him a 2-year deal because of his experience in the Majors. Mench's rep are apparently asking for a 1 year deal instead.
