NPB Roundup 12/9: O’s to make offers to both Uehara and Kawakami?

Sanspo: The Pacific League Board of Directors meeting took place yesterday and the topic of the strike zone was re-visited. Reducing game time has become a fairly big movement in the NPB and some feel that using a strike zone as defined by the rule book will ultimately lead to a faster pace, thereby reducing the time it takes to play a full game. Pacific League President Tadao Koike took things a step further and said, "It's about [calling strikes based on] the rules, but why not just go with 'if it's close, it's a strike'?"

The actual strike zone is narrow and some pitchers feel that a change to calling strikes based on the rules would lead to a wider zone.

Sponichi: The Orioles seem to be showing more than just a passing interest in Koji Uehara and Kenshin Kawakami. It seems as though the club is preparing to make offers around $10M over 2 years. The Orioles are looking to sign one of the two.

Nikkan Sports: Seibu Lions Koji Mitsui will attempt to go to the Majors via the posting system.
