NPB Roundup 12/18: Kawakami camp – still haven’t started any negotiations

Nikkan Sports: Dan Evans - "We still haven't started any serious negotiations." Kenshin Kawakami's camp is intent on simply making sure teams realize that he's available and fielding any questions they may have on the free agent. The hope is that the more accessible they are to teams, the better things will be when they are ready to negotiate. The article also mentions that the Cardinals could have an interest in Kawakami and Koji Uehara.

Sanspo: The Tigers have announced that Kevin Mench and Jeff Williams are all but signed. Terms have been agreed to (although none are disclosed in the report) and now all that's left is getting everything done in writing. Both players are represented by the same agent.

Incidentally, a new menu item may be added at one of the vendors at Koshien Stadium next season: the Mench Katsu Sand. BTW: this is an actual food item, so it isn't as if the team is creating an altogether "new" item specifically for Kevin Mench.

Sanspo: For anyone curious about what Masumi Kuwata is now up to... He is getting ready to apply for Waseda University Graduate School in order to study Sports Science (Sports Management). If Kuwata had not been picked by the Giants, he may have actually gone on to attend Waseda University.

Sports Hochi: The Seibu Lions have officially filed posting paperwork for Koji Mitsui. The question is, will any team in the Majors be interested in a 35-year-old reliever coming off one of his worst seasons in his career (24 IP, 33 H, 2 HR, 10 BB, 12 SO, 7.50 ERA)? The only thing I see that he has going for him, is the fact that he's a lefty.

Sponichi: The Seibu Lions are taking a look at Dicky Gonzalez. They are in search of an arm that can replace Matt Kinney on the roster.
