NPB Roundup 12/18: Swallows mascot Tsubakuro to publish a book

Sanspo: All 25 Pacific League Umpires have renewed their contracts for the 2009 season. The Central League Umpires renewed their contracts on the 17th.

Sanspo: Softbank is currently looking for a stadium announcer. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Experience is a plus. Those interested should submit an application form, resume, and photo to the Softbank offices before January 21st, 2009.

Sanspo: Yakult Swallows mascot Tsubakuro held a press conference at the Yakult Offices to announce the publication of his book, Tsubakuro no Onaka. The book will be released in February of 2009. The mascot for the Chunichi Dragons, Doala, also announced that he will be publishing a book in February entitled, Doala's Room. Doala wanted to hold a press conference like Tsubakuro, but was busy taking care of some PR work for the Dragons.

Sankei News: The Orix Buffaloes and Jon Leicester have agreed to terms. The contract is a 1-year deal worth 40M yen.

Sankei News: The Nippon Ham Fighters have hired Al Hargesheimer to be their US-based Scouting Director.

    Tsubakuro no Onaka is going to be a collection of essays and photos by Tsubakuro. I’m guessing the Doala book will be similar. In fact, I think this is the second book to be publish by Doala. The first one was entitled Doala no Himitsu (or Doala’s Secrets).

    Mascots (not just in sports) are really big in Japan right now.
