NPB Roundup 1/6: Kawakami to make a decision soon?

by on Jan.05, 2009 @ 10:45 pm, under NPB

Nikkan Sports: Kenshin Kawakami spoke to reporters early this morning when he stopped by Nagoya Dome and said, "I'm almost at a decision. Sometime this week? Soon. I'll be making my decision soon."

Nikkan Sports: Chien Ming Wang was left off the WBC rosters for Taiwan. This is, of course, due to the fact that he spent more than 45 days on the DL last season.

Sanspo: For the first time this off-season, Hisashi Iwakuma tossed around a WBC regulation-sized baseball. As with most other Japanese pitchers that have thrown the ball, Iwakuma also said he felt the ball was a little harder to grasp. He started playing around with the WBC regulation-sized baseball in late December to try and get a better feel for the ball.

Current rumors place Iwakuma, along with Daisuke Matsuzaka and Yu Darvish as the top three starters on Samurai Japan.

Sanspo: Norichika Aoki celebreated his 27 birthday yesterday. He told reporters that his goal for 2009 will be to rack-up 270 hits between the WBC, NPB regular season, NBP All-Star games, and NPB playoffs. The idea here is that such a number can only be reached the deeper his teams make the championship rounds.

WBC: max 8
NPB season: 144
All Star Game: 2
Climax Series: max 8
Nippon Series: max 7
Asia Series: max 4
Total: 173 games

Aoki is focusing a lot on weight training this off-season and is also undergoing a series of massage therapies in order to address a mis-aligned pelvis (his right leg is shorter than his right leg).
