Norichika Aoki and the Yakult Swallows finally came to terms on a price: 260M yen for the 2009 season. That's a 40M yen raise over last year.

Said Aoki, "I got a number I was happy with and signed and I feel good. Now I just want to go out there and put up some numbers."

It will be interesting to see what Aoki’s future holds for him. Will he end up giving MLB a shot or will the Swallows re-visit talk of the long extension?

I think the Swallows need him to stay. He’s really one of the team’s biggest stars. Losing Iwamura and then Ramirez really hurt that team. I don’t even imagine what kind of hit the team would take if they were to now lose Aoki.

Of course, it all depends on what Aoki wants to do. If he wants to go to the Majors, then there probably isn’t much the Swallows can do to stay in Japan. But outside of that, the Swallows really need to make sure they retain his services.
