by on Feb.01, 2009 @ 11:15 pm, under NPB

...Dicky Gonzalez weighed in at 106kg, 10 kilograms over-weight. Said Gonzalez, "I've got a lot of running ahead of me."

...Edgardo Alfonzo started his first day at camp fielding grounders at second and taking BP. "I'm still only at about 60%, but the manager said I could take my time to get going," said Alfonzo. A decision on whether or not he makes the team could come as soon as the 9th.

...Golden rookie, Taishi Ohta, is turning heads. He took 51 cuts in BP yesterday and hit 6 over the fence, 2 more than Hideki Matsui hit during his first BP session in a Giants uniform. The team is hoping that Ohta becomes the next Matsui and even wears his number (55).

I was watching some footage of him taking swings last night and he really has a smooth stroke. I'm really looking forward to see him play this season.

...Tsuyoshi Nishioka is aiming for 200 hits and wants to bat lead-off for the Marines this season. And in order to reach that goal, he's gunning for 1,000 swings of the bat each day during camp.
