NPB: Fujikawa gets caught on the 15-second rule

by on Feb.11, 2009 @ 8:43 am, under NPB

The 15-second rule was called against Kyuji Fujikawa today during a practice game between the Hanshin Tigers and Ham Fighters earlier today. Fujikawa entered the game in the second retired the first batter he face. But with the count 2-0 against the number 5 hitter Jason Botts, the plate ump called ball 3. Fujikawa ended up walking Botts and giving up a hit to the next hitter. But he was able to retire the next two batters to get out of a 1-out, 2-on jam.

...Aarom Baldiris (Hanshin Tigers) was diagnosed with tendinitis in the left wrist. Wonder if the crazy bat tossing practice had anything to do with it.

Baldiris began feeling pain in the wrist during practice on the 10th and was taken to a hospital for tests on the 11th. He'll be joining the Ni-gun training group while he recuperates. He'll focus primarily on running and throwing and won't be allowed to swing a bat for at least a week.

...Tetsuya Utsumi (Yomiuri Giants) tossed 207 pitches in his bullpen session earlier today.

...More on Atsuya Furuta's visit to Seibu training camp: he caught Hideaki Wakui and Takayuki Kishi in the bullpen today.

"Both of them have some great pitches. I've seen a lot of curves in my career, but Kishi has one of the best," said Furuta.
