...The Yomiuri Giants signed Levi Romero to a 1-year Ikusei contract worth 3.3M yen. He was given the number 111.

...Katsuya Nomura latest grumblings (ボヤキ):

"Between practice games and bullpen sessions, Masahiro Tanaka hasn't rested very much. I'm a little worried he might be throwing a little too much. And then you have Hisashi Iwakuma -- I don't think he's thrown enough. I wonder if that's the American style. In any case, I hope the two return from the WBC happy about their experiences. I'm also looking forward to their gifts from the States."

...Atsuya Furuta visited the Yakult Swallows' training camp yesterday. It was the first time he visited their camp since he retired from baseball. Furuta was hoping for a chance to catch Yoshinori Sato's bullpen session, but unfortunately it was his off-day.

...The Rakuten Eagles announced the number of chocolates they received from fans on Valentine's Day and at the top of the list was Satoshi Nagai with 83.

"After Shima got married, I figured I'd be at the top of the list this year," said Nagai with a smirk.

...There was a mini Valentine's Day event involving Bobby Valentine yesterday. Fans were able to line up and personally give Bobby Valentine chocolates in exchange for candies and an autographed shitajiki. About 120 fans attended the event.

...And training camp photos from February 14th (Sanspo).

The Giants must like the potential of Romero’s arm and see him as a bit of a project. The most innings he’s ever thrown in the minor leagues is 66 (2006), and he’s never made it past high A ball. Jim Callis had this to say about him after the 2004 season:

He’s a one-pitch guy right now, relying on an 89-93 mph four-seam fastball. If he can come up with something to go with that pitch, he might be something.
