NPB: Fans already lining up in front of the Dome; and other news…

by on Mar.04, 2009 @ 11:20 pm, under NPB, WBC

...Due to safety reasons, fans were not allowed to camp outside the Tokyo Dome for today's game. I guess there are some fans that want to be "the first" inside the Dome.

This was apparently taken this morning outside of the Dome

...Kyuji Fujikawa is ready to pitch in every game at the WBC if needed (up to 9 games). WBC pitching coach Tsuyoshi Toda also appears to be thinking along the same lines.

"Of course, if it's to win. You use the good players. We're not talking about practice or exhibition games any more. This is just like the regular season," said Toda.

...Yu Darvish is ready to go. "I'm not going to think about pitch limits. Right now, I'm thinking 9 innings," said Darvish.

Pitchers will be limited to 70 pitches during the first round of the WBC. Pitching a complete game within that limit might sound impossible, but Darvish has pitched a complete game while tossing only 89 pitches before.

...Team Korea's Kwang-Hyun Kim has a toothache. The news was reported by Korean media outlets on the 4th. Apparently, the pain is so bad that Kim can't get any sleep at night.

...Yuki Saito appears to have added a change-up to his repertoire (up to now, he's basically been a 3-pitch pitcher: slider, forkball, and two-seamer). Or rather, he's looking to use the pitch in actual game situations.

Saito mix in a few change-ups during his 100-pitch bullpen session yesterday in order to get a better feel for the pitch and could try using it during a practice game on the 12th. He's been throwing the change since high school, but has used it primarily as a gauge to see how is arm is feeling during practice.

The game comes on here on ESPN2. You should have made a Sim Central sign to hold up.

In case anyone is wondering, I’ll be sitting in the balcony section along the third base side. I have no idea how to read these tickets, so that about all the info I can give.

Oh, and I’ll be wearing a Rakuten Eagles cap (most likely backwards).

It looks like the offense continued to struggle a bit with only five hits. Hope you had a good time.
