Said Hisanobu Watanabe, "If there was another deserving pitcher, I may have decided differently, but with everyone pitching the way they are... I just thought I might as well go with the pitcher that pitched at the WBC."

Incidentally, Wakui gave up 4 runs (all earned) over 5 innings of work on 12 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strike outs in his start today (all four runs scored in the 5th).

Iwakuma’s re-emergence last season was a great story. It seems like a no-brainer that both he and Darvish would be matched up on opening day. If you make it out to Miyagi this year, it would be pretty cool if you get the chance to see him pitch live again.

I’m planning on going to a few games in Sendai this season and I’d really love to see Iwakuma, Tanaka, and Rasner pitch.
