HANSHIN TIGERS

...As briefly mentioned in another posting, Kevin Mench was removed from the active roster on Wednesday. But the official reason wasn't due to his prolonged slump. The official reason: a problem with his kidneys (腎機能障害の疑い).

ORIX BUFFALOES

...The Buffaloes announced that they will be recycling old uniforms by creating eco-bags out of them. Profit from the bags will be donated to area grade schools for planting new trees.

YOKOHAMA BAY STARS

...Toshihisa Nishi is now denying reports that he will be retiring at the end of the season.

Said Nishi, "The media is getting ahead of things. I'm not really thinking about that right now." When asked what he was doing when he visited with the team officials on Tuesday he said, "Murakami-san (involved with team management) was worried about me and we just spoke about different ways of practicing."

Nishi was also asked if he was going to keep playing and he replied, "If the team didn't want me any more, I suppose there's not much I'd be able to do, but as far as I know, I'm still needed here."

OTHER

...The All Japan University Baseball Federation agreed to a special 60th anniversary commemorative game between select college players and select NPB players. The game is tentatively set for November 11th at the Tokyo Dome.

Most of the college players to participate in the game will be selected from the team that gets assembled for this year's Japan-US University Tournament. The NPB will likely focus on selecting younger stand-outs to represent them at the game.
