NPB: Norichika Aoki – a slow starter?

by on Apr.22, 2009 @ 12:51 am, under NPB

So far through the first 15 games of the seasons, Norichika Aoki is batting .267 (16-for-67). Seems kind of low, but how does that stack up against his previous seasons?

Here's how:

Code:
YEAR AB R H RBI 2B 3B HR BB HBP K SB
2009 67 10 16 6 4 0 1 3 3 10 4
2008 59 10 18 7 4 0 1 5 0 3 6
2007 54 10 23 7 1 0 4 14 1 10 3
2006 55 7 17 2 1 0 0 12 0 7 2
2005 58 11 12 3 1 0 1 6 0 21 4

Outside of the 2007 season, Aoki's been a fairly slow starter. And despite starting the 2005 season with only 12 hits through his first 15 games, he still ended up with 202 hits at the end of the season (a career high).

Aoki will be ok. I think the bigger (and perhaps more pressing) question is how Aaron Guiel and Jamie D'Antona do.

How do I find out current batting & fielding statistics for Jamie D’Antona of the Swallows? Does Japan have the equivalent of ESPN on the internet?

I get them off the official NPB site (current stats are only available in Japanese).

    Here are D’Antona’s stats:

    Code:
G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI SB CS SF SH BB IBB HBP SO GIDP BA SLG OBP
    D'Antona 15 60 57 6 16 3 0 4 31 8 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 15 2 .281 .544 .317

    Fielding at first base
              G PO A E DP FPCT
    D'Antona 14 116 11 1 7 .992

No problem. If there are any players (or if you’d like an update on D’Anotona) you want stats for, feel free to ask.

Since I found the NPB website incomprehensible, I may occasionally take you up on that offer. I won’t do it too often, though, since that spread sheet you produced looked like a lot of work. Thank you.

Simple stat requests like the one you made for D’Antona actually don’t take up too much time for me to throw together, so it’s really no problem. It’s the more in-depth stats that can be a little difficult to gather.

In any case, I appreciate your post.
