NPB: Mench ok; Cabrera has a broken right pinky toe; Carp going after Scott McClain

...Shinjiro Hiyama hit his 13th pinch-hit home run of his career, tying him for first with Hiroshi Yagi (aka, The God of Pinch-Hitting) atop the club's record for most pinch-hit home runs (13).

...Kevin Mench was given a clean bill of health after getting checked out at a hospital in Osaka. He'll take a few days off before getting back into the, ahem, swing of things.

...Kenta Kurihara is listed as day-to-day after being removed in the 5th after his third at bat; he was complaining of tightness in his back.

...The Carp have offered a contract to former Seibu Lion Scott McClain. They are hoping he might be able to provide some power to the line-up.

...Alex Cabrera was hit by a batted foul ball in the 6th while standing at third. Tests revealed that he suffered a broken right pinky toe that could take 2 months to fully heal.

...The Eagles are 2-2 after games Masahiro Tanaka starts and 2-1 after games Hisahi Iwakuma starts. And to that end, they were hoping that Kohei Hasebe would be able to provide some stability to the rotation, but that hasn't been the case so far this season (2.2 IP, 3 ER; 8.2 IP, 5 ER; 5.2 IP, 5 ER). The Eagles won't be going very unless someone steps up.

...Takehiro Ishikawa was taken out of the game in the 7th when he sprained his right knee. Masato Akamatsu (HIR) was trying to steal second and got tangled up with Ishikawa. The sprain doesn't appear to be severe and the team will wait to make any decisions until seeing what his knee looks like tomorrow morning.
