NPB: Masahiro Tanaka removed from active roster

by on Apr.30, 2009 @ 5:13 am, under NPB

HANSHIN TIGERS

...With an RBI in yesterday's game, Tomoaki Kanemoto now has 29 for the month of April, tying a personal high that he set back in May of 2005. He can break that tie with an RBI tonight.

...Norihiro Akahoshi continues to struggle with lower back pains and is currently listed as day-to-day. He was with the team on Wednesday but was not in the dugout -- instead he was receiving treatment in the clubhouse for his back pains.

There are currently no immediate plans to take him off the active roster.

HIROSHIMA CARP

...The entire stadium went red during yesterday's game after the 5th inning when fans in the stands held up pieces of red paper. The paper was handed out to them prior to the game and is part of a project (named "LET'S GO STADIUM PROJECT") to help get the fans more involved at games.

RAKUTEN EAGLES

...121, 129, 113, and 112. That's the number of pitches Masahiro Tanaka threw in his last four complete game victories. And now perhaps he's facing the unfortunate consequences of throwing too much: he was removed from the active roster earlier today for tightness in his right shoulder. Hopefully it isn't anything serious. But I'd be lying if I said this was a huge shocker.

What the Eagles will do now without their best pitcher, I have no idea.

YOMIURI GIANTS

...For the first time in 49 years, the Giants were shut-out in three consecutive games. Incidentally, Tatsunori Hara is 1 win away from his 400th managerial victory.

This quote from your other entry turned out to be prophetic:

    Quote:

I don’t think it’s possible to keep throwing complete games over the course of a full season. Staying away from injuries is much more important.

I’m really pretty down about this right now. And then Aoki getting hit in the head… Not a good day for the players I tend to follow.
