NPB: Kanemoto plays in 1,500th consecutive game; Yuki Saito wins his 20th

...Kazuya Fukuura picked up his 1,500th hit off Akio Mizuda in a game against the Softbank Hawks on Saturday. The hit went for a double in the 8th and pushed 2 runners across the plate.

...Tadahito Iguchi continues to say that his leg isn't a problem when he hits.


...Tomoaki Kanemoto played in his 1,500 straight game. It was also his 1,355th consecutive game in which he has played every inning.

...Kyuji Fujikawa was taken off the active roster due to pain in his right elbow.

...Kevin Mench went 1-for-3 in his first start (at Ni-gun) since since April 21st. The plan is to continue giving him 3-4 at bats a game until he's deemed ready to re-join the parent club.


...The Eagles are now 7 games over .500, the best record in team history.

...Masahiro Tanaka was back in practice (at Ni-gun) on the 2nd after taking 2 days off for rest. He spent most of the day running and strengthening his core muscles.


...Hiram Bocachica is listed as day-to-day after complained of tightness in his left thigh during Sunday's game against the Fighters.


...Yuichi Honda was held out of the starting line-up on Sunday as a precautionary move. Honda fouled a ball off his left leg on Saturday and the team felt it would be best to give him the day off.


...Norichika Aoki hit a game-winning home run against the Carp on Sunday. When asked about getting hit on the head on the Thursday in a game against the Dragons, Aoki said "I'm ok now. As long as things keep going as they are."

Incidentally, Aoki had this to say about getting hit in the head after Saturday's game: "The image of getting hit is no longer in my head. I was able to swing the bat just as I imagined."


...Hayato Terahara was taken off the active roster due to pain in his back muscles.


...The NPB started off Golden Week Break with a schedule full of nothing but day games. 184,128 fans packed 6 stadiums.
