NPB: Matsunaka 1 away from 1,500; Katsuya Nomura hates business cards

by on May.05, 2009 @ 12:27 am, under NPB

...If everything goes well, Kyuji Fujikawa could be back with the parent club by May 13th. He's been spending most of his time stretching, running and doing dashes, but he is expected to do some light throwing today.

Said Fujikawa after practice yesterday, "I hurt the elbow quite a while back, but it isn't really about when it happened... And just happened to decide the timing for this yesterday. I pitched when I was hurting and I was getting hit, so I was being a burden to the team."

...Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi appeared in his 581st game last night. He's currently tied for second with Kimiyasu Kudo on the active list, and in 40th place on the All-Time list.

...After seeing Masahiro Tanaka get taken off the active roster with a tired arm, the Fighters must be feeling a bit concerned about Yu Darvish. At least enough to give him the entire day off yesterday.

...Katsuya Nomura doesn't like getting business cards before games. Why is that, you ask? That's because he's 1-6 in games when he gets business cards prior to game time. But there was a bit of a twist to this. Apparently it isn't just being given a business card, but also seeing business cards. Prior to yesterday's loss against the Seibu Lions, Nomura caught sight of a media member's business card. Here's what Nomura had to say after the game:

"I wanted him to write down the number of a restaurant he recommended to me. I told him no business cards the minute I saw him trying to write the number on the back of one, but for me, even just seeing a business card isn't good. It's 100% no good."

So if you're ever near Nomura prior to game time, think twice before flashing him a business card.

...Daisuke Kusano has a modest 12-game hitting streak going and is now 30-for-57 (.526).

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka needs only 1 more hit to reach 1,500.

...Marc Kroon tossed 20 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday. He's eligible to join the parent club today, but he'll most likely only join the team for practice and if all goes well, make an appearance in a Ni-gun game on the 6th.

The guys seems to get two, three hits everytime he plays. 12 game hit streak is nice.

I enjoy all the Nomura ramblings. 1-6, is that this year? many of their losing games, if so.

I really love his ramblings as well. He’s like a modern-day Yogi Berra. Everything that comes out of his mouth is gold.
