by on May.07, 2009 @ 2:15 am, under NPB

...Kai-Wen Cheng, the starter who was set to start the rained out game on the 6th, will be making his next start on the 10th against the Bay Stars.

...Weichu Lin will be joining the parent club on the 8th in time for the series against the Bay Stars. The Tigers will be looking to use Lin in left field and batting in the 6 hole.

...Minoru Iwata reported no problems with his left shoulder after tossing 2 innings on the fifth against Hiroshima. He will be making a second start on the 12th against Softbank (about 80 pitches). Iwata could be ready to return to the parent club for a start on the 19th.

...Akihiro Yano will start playing catch on the 7th. He has not thrown a ball in 9 days.

...Kevin Mench is now batting .231 (3-for-13) over 5 games at Ni-gun.

...Kyuji Fujikawa continued playing catch on the 6th, but at an extended distance of about 20 meters (about 65 ft). He mixed speeds and threw a number of curveballs.

...2008 First Round Draft Pick Yijie Xiao (Ikketsu Sho) started in his first pro game at Ni-gun yesterday. He went 5 innings while giving up 3 runs on 8 hits.

...Sho Nakata hit his 10th home run at Ni-gun on 6th. When asked about not being called up to Ichi-gun, he said he was "shocked."

...Katsuya Nomura's comments after yesterday's victory:

Your thoughts on the Lions
Looks like their offense is struggling a bit right now. Okawari-kun (Nakamura) looks like the only guy that's hitting right now. They also have guys that like to hit against us, like Hirao.

On Hasebe getting to the 8th with only an earned run
Can't really complement him too much without any restraint. We gave him all these runs and he couldn't just pitch a complete game? I feel like punching him.

On Takasu's injuries
It looks pretty bad. It's serious. I wonder who called for it. I don't think anyone called for it, and that's why Teppei went after it. Takasu isn't really vocal. That was a preventable injury.

On the possibility of Takasu being removed from the active roster
That's probably what's going to happen. He is a regular, so losing him is going to hurt. Moving Kusano to second will be a little difficult, so Uchimura or Kosaka will probably start at second. I'm glad we spent time bring Uchimura up last season. Being ready for times like this is really important.

On the offense that continues to hit
Takeshi Yamasaki has really done a great job hitting in the 4 hole over the last 9 games. The ace Iwakuma has been big to. If he would get a little more excited, the team might come together a little more.

On needing one more win to pull even in career managerial wins and losses
The magic number to .500 is 1. But that really doesn't matter until I retire.

It’s good to see Nakata showing power down there, but he’s only hitting .268 with a .297 OBP. And he’s struck out 35 times with only six walks.

Yeah, I don’t think he’s really ready yet. He’s young and there’s no need to rush him. It’s nice to see him wanting to get to Ichi-gun so badly, but I think he really needs to tone down the cockiness a bit.
