...Minoru Iwata went 5 innings against Ni-gun Hiroshima and surrendered 3 runs on 8 hits. He also threw 5 wild pitches in the game. Iwata is slated to make another Ni-gun start against Chunichi on the 26th.


...A total of 123,307 fans were in attendance across the six ballparks for yesterday's first day of Inter-league play. The first day of Inter-league play last year attracted 115,465 fans across five ballparks (the Lions vs. Swallows started a day late).

...Two more Kansai Independent League games have been canceled due to the Swine Flu virus: the Akashi Red Stallions vs Kishu Rangers game on the 23rd and the Akashi Red Stallions vs Kobe 9 Cruise on the 24th.

...34-year-old righty pitcher Koichi Misawa signed a contract with the Long Beach Armada out of the Golden Baseball League. He will be joining another recently signed player: Hideki Irabu.

Misawa spent time Giants, Buffaloes, Swallows, and Dragons over a 9 year career. He retired in 2008 having appeared in 296 games (mostly as a reliever) with a 28-18 record.
