Yomiuri Giants 7 - Rakuten Eagles 1
After dropping 2 straight against the Fighters, the Giants managed to get out the brooms and sweep the Eagles.

Tetsuya Utsumi (7 IP, 6 H, 5 K, BB, 0 R) finally picked up his first victory of the season with a 7 shut-out inning performance. Daisuke Ochi (1 IP, 0 H, 0 K, 0 R) and Kiyoshi Toyoda (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER) tossed the final 2 innings of the game. Hisashi Iwakuma took the loss, giving up 5 runs (all earned) on 11 hits, 7 strike outs and 2 walks.

The Giants collected 13 hits (including 5 doubles and a triple) to score 7 runs. Michihiro Ogaswara (3-for-5, 2B, R, RBI) led the hit parade, followed by Takahito Kudo (2-for-5, 2 R, RBI), Alex Ramirez (2-for-5, 2B, RBI), Yoshiyuki Kamei (2-for-4, BB, 3B, 3 RBI), and Shinnosuke Abe (2-for-4, 2 2B, R).

The big inning for the Giants came in the 3rd when Hayato Sakamoto (RBI double), Kudo (RBI single), Ogasawara (RBI single), and Ramirez (single) collected consecutive hits after Abe began the inning with a lead-off double. After a strike out by Seung-Yeop Lee for the second out of the inning, Kamei drove in the fourth and final run of the inning on an RBI single to center.

The Eagles had a couple of chances to get on the board early on (runners on first and second with 2 out in both the 2nd and 3rd innings), but that was about all they could do against the Giants. The one run they were able to score came in the bottom of the 9th when Akihito Fujii grounded out to short to score Kensuke Uchimura from third (he pinch ran for Fernando Seguignol after he singled to start the inning).

Seibu Lions 10 - Yokohama Bay Stars 6
Kazuyuki Hoashi (8 IP, 7 H, 5 K, BB, 4 R, 4 ER) did a good job of holding the Bay Stars down to just 3 hits over the first 6 innings of the game. But then he surrendered two 2-runs home runs in the 7th (Takahiro Saeki) and 8th (Tatsuhiko Kinjo). Ryan Glynn had a rough start, his worst this season: 5 IP, 9 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 6 R, 5 ER.

The Lions got on the board first with 4 singles, 3 of them hit consecutively to start the game, to take 2-0. They followed that with a 3-spot in the second (an RBI single by Takuya Kuriyama; an RBI double by Hiroyuki Nakajima; and an RBI double by Takeya Nakamura), single runs in the 5th (an RBI double by Yoshihito Ishii) and 6th (an RBI triple by Kuriyama) and 3 runs in the 7th (RBI ground out by G.G. Sato; an RBI double by Tomoaki Sato; and an RBI double by Tatsuyuki Uemoto).

The Bay Stars hit a total of three 2-run homers, one each in the 7th, 8th, and 9th, to score their 6 runs: Saeki (1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI), Saeki (1-for-3, BB, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI), and Kazuya Fujita (1-for-1, HR, R, 2 RBI). Shuichi Murata went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Hanshin Tigers 7 - Orix Buffaloes 3
After going 0-4-1 since their last win, the Tigers were in need of a victory. And a victory they got.

Neither starting pitcher was particularly effective and neither was involved in the final decision: Atsushi Noumi gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, 4 strike outs, and an HBP over 5 innings of work; Satoshi Komatsu went 5 innings while giving up 3 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits, 2 strike outs, and 3 walks. Scott Atchison (2 IP, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 0 R) got the win in relief for the Tigers. Ryan Vogelsong 1 IP, 0 H, 2 K, BB, HBP, 2 R, 2 ER) was saddled with the loss.

The middle of the line-up came up big: Tomoaki Kanemoto went 3-for-3 with 2 walks, a double, and 2 RBI; Takahiro Arai went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI; and Weichu Lin went 3-for-4 with a homer, a run, and an RBI.

Despite only scoring 3 runs, the Buffaloes did manage to collect 13 hits, they just couldn't get the big hits: they loaded the bases with 1 out in the 4th; runners on first and second with 1 out in the 7th; runners on second and third with 1 out in the 8th; runners on first and third with no out in the 9th.

Naoyuki Ohmura (3-for-5, R) and Jose Fernandez (3-for-5, 2B 2 RBI) picked up 3 hits a piece for the Buffaloes. Seven other players finished with a hit.

Komatsu still has not managed to win a game this year over 7 starts.
