NPB: 7 consecutive wins to start the season for Tanaka

by on May.28, 2009 @ 3:20 am, under NPB

...Keisuke Kano has put together a modest 7-game hitting streak.

...Masahiro Tanaka has now reeled off 7 consecutive victories.

...Some Katsuya Nomura comments after yesterday's game:

So you went from Koyama to Aoyama last night...
The two are basically interchangeable... I just went with my gut. I really don't have any facts to back my decision. Aoyama had a bad outing against the Bay Stars on the 25th so I was curious to see if he'd go out and pitch aggressively.

On Arime getting out of a bases loaded jam with no out in the 8th...
That was a big play. It was because we were able to get past that jam that we were able to pull together and win.

On Tanaka coming out after 86 pitches...
I'm not happy. He told me he couldn't loosen up his shoulder in the 6th. And yet he's hitting 150 on the radar gun in the 7th. After the game he said he'd need 3 days off. Looks like there a mind and body flu going around. Think I'll wear a [surgical] mask tomorrow.

On Norihiro Nakamura picked up the deciding hit...
He was really happy about that one. When he got back to the bench he said, "Skipper, I hit it, I did it!" I wanted to congratulate him but I couldn't. Was he trying to make up for the double plays he hit into from the day before? I guess it could have been a double play or a strike out.

...Chang-Yong Lim has appeared in 20 games and has tossed 20.1 innings but has yet to surrender any runs. His 15 saves paces the CL.

...Toshihisa Nishi will likely be called up to the parent club today (5/28). However, this report mentions that the game between the Bay Stars and Fighters has been rained out. Perhaps the 29th?

...Alex Ramirez is in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak.

...The Osaka Gold Villicanes announced that they have signed a sponsor contract with Morishita Jintan.

The first thing I thought of when I saw that Tanaka had come out after seven innings was what Nomura would have to say about it. Thanks for the quotes.

The reporters were laughing when he said that a new virus was going around and that he intended to wear a mask. That was just a really classic nugget, especially with the media going crazy about the swine flu over here.
