Nippon Ham Fighters 7 - Yokohama Bay Stars 1
Shugo Fujii (5 IP, 4 H, 3K, BB, 0 R) tossed a 5 solid shut-out innings on his way to his 4th victory of the season. Another tough start for Daisuke Miura (6.1 IP, 8 H, 2 K, 5 R, 5 ER), his second consecutive game of giving up 5 runs, netted him his third loss.
The Fighters had a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 6th. Shuichi Murata (2-for-4, HR, R, RBI) quickly cut that lead in half with his 8th home run of the season. But in the end, it wouldn't matter because the Fighters would explode for 5 runs in the top of the 7th.
Tomochika Tsuboi (1-for-3, 2B, R) led off the inning with a double and Makoto Kaneko (1-for-3) moved him over to third on a sac bunt. And then the fireworks: Shota Ohno (1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) smacked a 2-run shot and Sho Nakata (1-for-1, 2B) followed with a pinch hit double. Kensuke Tanaka (1-for-5, R) lined out to short for the second out of the inning, but that would only provide temporary relief because the next batter, Yoshio Itoi (1-for-4, HBP, HR, R, 2 RBI), hit the inning's second 2-run homer. Two back-to-back doubles by Atsunori Inaba (2-for-4, BB, 2B, R, RBI) and Shinji Takahashi (2-for-5, 2 2B, R, RBI) extended the Fighter's lead, 7-1.
Toshihisa Nishi led-off the inning and went 0-for-3 with a walk: ground out to second; flyout to center; gidp; walk. ... The double Nakata hit in the 7th was his first professional extra base hit.
