...Shunsuke Watanabe gained 6kg (13.1 pounds) during the USA leg of the WBC. Based on the article, it seems he had to eat quite a few hot dogs and pizzas for his various meals throughout his stay.

It's been over 2 months and Watanabe has finally managed to shed off 5kg of the 6kg he gained.

...Tony Blanco's second homer in last night's game against the Orix Buffaloes was apparently measured at 150m (492 ft).

...Craig Brazell went 1-for-3 with an RBI in his first (Ni-gun) start on Tuesday. He also got a little fired up when he struck out during his third at bat in the fifth with a runner on third and 1 out.

The Tigers were playing the Kagawa Olive Guyners and Yoshitaka Matsui was on the mound. After striking out Brazell, Matsui apparently showed a little too much emotion on the mound and Brazell immediately stared him down. At one point the plate umpire had to step in an effort to keep Brazell working back towards the dugout.

Here are some comments from Brazell after the game:

On your first game...
It's been a while... Other than my timing, I felt pretty good out there.

You got your first hit...
Considering I haven't played against live competition in a while, I think I did a pretty job. My job is to drive runs in.

On playing first base...
It's been about a month since I played first. I think I made the most of my chances there. I made the plays I was expected to make.

On things getting a little hairy at one point...
I was just really excited to be playing again... I had an abundance of energy.

...John Wasdin finally picked up his first victory of the season last night against the Swallows. His last win in the NPB came in 2002 when he started for the Yomiuri Giants.

...Takahiro Saeki became the 101st player to reach 1,500th career hits when he launched a home run in his first trip to the plate against the Softbank Hawks.

...The Giants had their second extra-inning, 0-0 tie game of the season last night. The last time it happened: in 1943. It was also the first time in 59 years that the Giants have played 7 extra inning games without a win (0-2-5).

...Yoshinobu Takahashi took outdoor BP for the first time this year -- he took 16 cuts, none of which ended up over the fences. Takahashi still has a ways to go, but he is now able to run sprints on the field, take indoor batting practice, and some outdoor batting practice. There is currently no timetable on his return.
