NPB: Mench goes 2-for-4 on Saturday at Ni-gun; Some injury updates

...Akira Ishikawa (VP of the Marines) was concerned about Bobby Valentine's quote in the papers about wanting to make some changes to the coaching personnel (namely, the batting coach) and apparently met with him to confirm his current thoughts. For now, it appears as though Valentine will not be making any changes and that he merely said what he did because he was frustrated with the team's recent struggles at the plate.


...Aarom Baldiris was out in right field for the 9th against the Orix Buffaloes yesterday for the first time in his Ichi-gun career.

...Not only did Shinobu Fukuhara toss a complete game shut while striking out 10, but he also went 2-for-4 and drove in 3 runs with the bat.

...Kevin Mench went 2-for-4 with a walk and 2 strike outs against Ni-gun Orix yesterday. He batted fourth and was the DH.

...Makoto Imaoka took 239 swings during BP on Saturday (129 before lunch, 110 after lunch) and hit 15 over the fence.


...The 5 consecutive hits Yu Darvish gave up to the Giants in the bottom of the sixth in last night's game are a career high. It was also his 100th career game.


...After two consecutive shut-outs at the hands of the Hanshin Tigers, the Buffaloes are now scoreless over 22 innings. They have also fallen 11 games under .500.


...Marc Kroon is listed as day-to-day after landing on his glove hand while tagging Kaneko Makoto out at second during last night's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.


...Hideki Irabu started in, and won, his first game with the Armada Long Beach and went 5.0 innings while giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strike outs against the Yuma Scorpions.

...Eri Yoshida will likely make another appearance on the 12th against the Akashi Red Soldiers, this time with the intent that she goes a full inning.
