NPB: Kazuo Fukumori to beg for Nomura’s forgiveness?; Nakata hangs around

by on Jun.11, 2009 @ 11:39 pm, under NPB

...Takahiro Arai hit home runs in back-to-back games for the first time since he accomplished the feat on October 6th and 7th in 2007.

...Take this with a grain of salt, but I thought it was interesting that a recent fan poll of 50 Tigers' fans revealed that only 8% were happy with the job that Akinobu Mayumi was doing.

During a TV segment on the news show "ZERO," Senichi Hoshino was quoted as saying, "They score runs and then they give them right back up the next inning. If you score runs, don't give any up. That's what I want him to teach."

The Tigers are currently in 5th place in the Central League with a 22-29-3 record. They are 12.5 games behind the first place Giants (34-16-6).

...It appears as though Sho Nakata's spot on the active roster is safe for now, this despite the upcoming activation of Terrmel Sledge on Saturday (6/13). The reason? Since Brian Sweeney isn't expected to get any more starts during Inter-league play, they will remove him and use his spot for Sledge.

The only question is, if the Fighters seriously want to give the kid a chance, why not use him more?

...Kazuo Fukumori met with the Eagles at a local hotel in Sendai after last night's game against the Chunichi Dragons. Prior to their meeting, Katsuya Nomura was quote as saying, "I said I don't want him. I don't want players that have fallen off the tracks. ... We begged him to stay and yet he still left. And now this?"

Fukumori would like to try out for the Eagles, but a lot will depend on how his talks with Nomura go.

...When the Washington Nationals selected 20-year-old Naoya Washiya with their 412th pick in the 14th round, they also got Masahiro Tanaka's former high school teammate from Komazawa University Tomakomai High School. The two played alongside each other in the 2005 and 2006 Koshien tournaments.

We’ve been over it already, but I just don’t understand the thinking behind Nakata. It seems like he needs to get at-bats one place or another.

The Nationals must really like Washiya as this is the second year in a row they’ve taken him.
