2009 College Baseball Tournament Semfinals (6/13/2009)

by on Jun.13, 2009 @ 6:13 pm, under College

I went to my very first college baseball game yesterday at Jingu Stadium. (Thanks to Deanna from Marinerds was kind enough to invite me!)

The following two games were on the schedule:

  • Hosei Daigaku vs. Kansai Kokusai Daigaku (Hosei won 5-2)
  • Soka Daigaku vs. Fuji Daigaku (Fuji won 2-0)

I was originally planning on watching both games, but due to a sudden change in my schedule, I had to bail out after the first two innings of the second game. In hindsight, it was probably best that I left when I did because my backside is still sore from sitting for such a long time -- I actually sat from 10am to 2:30pm straight without getting up once. To top it off, I also once again forgot the sunscreen and my arms, nose, and the little area of the forehead that peeks through when you wear a baseball cap backwards, have a nice red glow.

In any case, I don't really have much time right now to go through any of the specifics, but I did want to go ahead and post the photos that I took at the game.

Here are two images of the stadium itself (these are for you Mike):

The Hosei Cheering Section:

And a series of action shots:

And for some reason, this happens to be my favorite shot:

You’ve got some really great action shots in there, Gen. I really like the way you captured the ball in so many of these shots. The slide at the plate above is excellent as well. And of course, I love seeing the shots of the stadium a lot. I just think it’s cool to be able to see how a stadium fits into the surrounding neighborhood. I’m really glad you got a chance to see these games, and I really appreciate you sharing your shots.

I think being able to sit so close to the action really helped me out this time around. I also tried using the continuous shot mode a little less frequently and relied more on timing.

I think this is the happiest I’ve been with the photos I’ve taken, although I still feel I have a loooong way to go.
