Yokohama Bay Stars 6 - Seibu Lions 5
W: Hiroki Sanada (1-1; 1.0 IP; 1 H, 2 BB, 0 R)
Sv: Shun Yamaguchi (5)
L: Shinya Okamoto (0-1; 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER)

No need to do a double take, the Bay Stars actually won a game, but it was close.

The Seibu Lions made quick work of Hitoshi Fujie (3.0 IP, 7 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 5 R, 5 ER), hitting 3 consecutive singles off of him to start the game, capitalized by a 2-run homer off the bat of Yoshihito Ishii (3-for-5, HR, R, 2 RBI) 1 out later. Takeya Nakamura's (1-for-5, HR, R, RBI) league leading 20th home run in the third with 2 out gave the Lions a 5-0 lead.

But apparently, the Bay Stars weren't quite ready to call it in just yet. Relying on a combination of 5 relievers out of the pen, Yokohama managed to contain the Lions' offense, despite allowing 7 hits and 3 walks. Key strike outs (2 strike outs to end the 4th with runners on second and third; 2 strike outs to the end the 6th with runners on first and second; and a strike out to end the 9th with a runner on first) and a double play (a 6-4-3 double play to end the 8th with the bases loaded) helped keep Seibu at bay.

In the meantime, the Bay Stars chipped away at the Lions' 5-run lead, scoring 2 runs in the 5th on a solo homer by Yuki Yoshimura (2-for-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) and an RBI single by Seiichi Uchikawa (3-for-5, 2B, R, RBI); a run in the 6th on an RBI double by Toshio Saito (1-for-4, 2B, RBI); and a run in the 7th on an RBI single by Tatsuhiko Kinjo (2-for-4, R, RBI). This set the stage for Yoshimura in the bottom of the 8th.

With the Bay Stars still down by a run, Yoshimura stepped up to bat with Kazuya Fujita (1-for-1, R) on first with 1 out. Shinya Okamoto quickly fell behind 2-0 to Yoshimura, but managed to come back and even the count at 2. Still, it was Yoshimura who ended up winning the batter, depositing the 5th pitch he saw into the stands in left field to give the Bay Stars a 6-5 lead.

Daisuke Kato faced 4 batters in the ninth to pick up his 5th save of the season.
