NPB: Weiyin Chen drawing interest from Majors?

by on Jun.23, 2009 @ 12:13 am, under NPB

It appears as though a number of MLB clubs are taking a look at Weiyin Chen.

Said one person connected to the MLB, "I think he can be a starter. A number of clubs are starting to take a look at him. I even think a number of scouts may have already filed their reports on him."

"I don't think a lot of clubs know that he can move after the season. Once teams in the US catch on to that and it turns out he wants to play in the Majors, I think almost every team will be involved," said a scout.

But Chen doesn't appear to be all that interested at moment and said, "Right now I'm not thinking about going or not going [to the Majors]. There haven't been very many Taiwanese pitchers to hold a spot in starting rotations in Japan and right now, that's something I'd like to try and accomplish."

Incidentally, Chen was taken off the active roster list on June 1, 2009 due to left shoulder tightness and could to re-join the parent club sometime during the first half of July.
