NPB: Toshiya Sugiuchi wins 2009 IL MVP Award

The 2009 Nihon Seimei Inter-league MVP is Softbank Hawks' starter Toshiya Sugiuchi. Sugiuchi finished the IL with a 3-0 record and had a 1.23 ERA over 44 innings and struck out 36.

As the winner of the IL MVP Award, Sugiuchi also gets 2M yen in award money.

The 2009 Nihon Seimei Awards went to Nippon Ham Fighters' starter Yu Darvish and Chunichi Dragons' infielder Tony Blanco.

Darvish went 4-0 with a 1.15 ERA over 39 innings and struck out 40 while Blanco led all hitters with 11 homers and 24 RBI during IL play.

Nihon Seimei Award winners get 1M yen in award money.

The IL MVP Award is given to one player from the team with the best winning percentage during IL play.

The Nihon Seimei Award is given to two top-performing players, one from each league.
