NPB: Carp now looking outside Japan for bullpen help

...Looks like some people are beginning to think that the Tigers could have a repeat of the 1985 season, what with Colonel Sanders making a comeback and Craig Brazell serving as a reminder of Randy Bass (both involved with that 1985 Championship Team).

...Tomoaki Kanemoto took 60 swings of the bat and hit 6 over the fence during BP on Wendesday.

...Minoru Iwata started a Ni-gun game on Wednesday against Orix and tossed 3 shut-out innings. He faced 9 batters, didn't give up a hit, didn't walk a batter, and struck out 4. Iwata is working on getting himself ready for a potential Ichi-gun start on July 2 against the Chunichi Dragons.

...Akihiro Yano tossed the ball around at a distance of 50 meters during practice on Wednesday (also took some soft toss BP). If all goes well, he could make a start sometime during the weekend.

...Yu Darvish will likely be the starting pitcher on the 26th when the Fighters begin a 3-game series against the Chiba Lotte Marines at Chiba Lotte Marine Stadium. Darvish will be making the start on 5-days rest.

...After announcing that they were working on negotiating a contract with Andy Phillips, the Carp have added that they are still looking for one more foreigner to help out in the pen.

Carp Owner Hajime Matsuda said, "We're looking at three possibilities right now. All are relievers."

...Masahiro Tanaka will likely start Friday's game when the Eagles begin a 3-game series against the Orix Buffaloes.

...Norihiro Nakamura will likely join the parent club on the 26th.

...Toru Hosokawa, removed from the active roster due to pain in his right elbow, was supposed to make his first rehab start today (6/25) against Ni-gun Lotte, Lions' manager Hisanobu Watanabe stopped him from making the start.

"Hosokawa was at about 70% and was scheduled to start tomorrow (25th) to try his arm out in a game situation, but I put a stop to that. If he hurts his elbow again, it could mean we'd lose him for a year," said Watanabe.

...Relievers Takehiko Oshimoto (tired right shoulder) and Kenichi Matsuoka (tightness in his right elbow) could be ready to re-join the team and provide the club with help in the pen.

...For the second straight day in a row, Tatsunori Hara spent some time coaching Taishi Ohta on hitting.

...Edgardo Alfonzo will likely join the Ichi-gun team for practice today (25th). He could be called on to give Takuya Kimura a breather.
