NPB: Takeya Nakamura nails his 25th homer; Lotte and Lions battle it out – 5h 42m

...Last night's extra-inning game against the Seibu Lions clocked in a 5 hours and 42 minutes. That broke the previous Pacific League record of 5 hours and 32 minutes for an extra-inning game that was set on August 29th, 2000 between the Seibu Lions and Orix Blue Wave.


...Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi was taken off the active roster on Thursday because he likely won't have a chance to start for a while.


...Hiroshima added a new feature to Mazda Stadium: a 67M yen scoreboard made especially for passengers riding in Sanyo Shinkansen. The scoredboard was installed behind the left field seats facing outward and shows the current score, who's pitching, and who's batting.


...Hiromichi Fujiwara took a ball off his right hand in the second inning of Wednesday night's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters. He was taken to an area hospital to get the hand checked out and everything appeared to be alright. In the same inning, Toshiya Nakashima hurt his right wrist while batting and was also checked out at a hospital. He was diagnosed with a fracture in his left hamate (左有鉤骨骨折).


...Takeya Nakamura nailed his 25th home run of the season last night against the Chiba Lotte Marines. That puts him on pace to hit 50 for the year.


...Nobuhiko Matsunaka announced on Thursday that he will be donating 100,000yen to Love Green (an organization that helps to plant trees around the world).


...If the press can't get a juicy quote from Hideki Matsui about what he wants to do next season, then they'll try and get one from his father. Unfortunately, they couldn't get much from him either.

"Being involved in some many rumors is something that should make a player happy," said Masao Matsui, Hideki's father. "But it's his choice to make, so I'm not worrying about it."
